Original Grammar Grammar School Buildings
Monroe Historical Society photo #342

The one-story school building at back was moved from Park Place in 1899 by James Sterton to this three-acre site at the southeast corner of Ferry and Fremont, now the home of the Monroe School District Administration Building. When it opened for school in the new location, 45 pupils were in attendance. Early in 1900 the two-story frame school building was added and connected to the older building using a vestibule. It measured 36 by 42 feet and was built at a cost of $1150 by Louis Muelheisen. When school opened in the fall of 1900, 67 pupils attended and were split up by grade. Mrs. James A. Blosser taught grades 1, 2 and 3. Principal Robert J. Fausett taught grades 4, 5, 6, and 7.
