Nellie Robertson

Nellie Robertson won the 2002 Malstrom Award from the League of Snohomish County Heritage Organizations for these two books on Monroe history. She is a professional writer, whose credits include three novels and writing for the Monroe Monitor-Valley News for many years as a feature writer. Her column, Nellie's Knickknacks, was a weekly standard for over a decade. She taught parliamentary procedure at the University of Alaska, and this skill as a certified teacher of parliamentary law helped elect her to the presiding officer's chair some 14 times including serving as the Mayor of Dillingham, Alaksa. A longtime Monroe resident and volunteer for the Monroe Historical Society, Nellie recently moved back to her native Olympia, Washington, to be near her children.

Nellie's three historical novels, Kathyrn's Courage, Wellington Wisdom, and Beyond Wellington draw heavily upon her knowledge of local history. Her novel, Discoveries, draws upon her experiences while living in bush Alaska.

Nellie's history books are available at these Monroe locations:

  • Monroe Historical Society Museum
  • Monroe Monitor Office
  • Main Street Books
